You can access scoring guides and instructions for long-range projects in the RISE program section.
I was raised in North Carolina where I was educated in a full-time gifted program from 3rd-12th grade. North Carolina was and still is on the forefront of gifted education and this was one of the very first programs in the country. So I've been interested in gifted children all my life.
I obtained a bachelor's degree from Stephens College in Columbia, MO and a Master's degree from the University of North Carolina. I returned to college in the '90's when Missouri decided gifted teachers needed specific certification and completed that requirement. I am currently certified in 4 areas: K-8, Gifted Education, Middle School Social Studies, and High School English.
I have been teaching for 36 years, 1 as a 5th grade teacher, 12 as a third grade teacher and 23 as a gifted education teacher. I am dedicated to my students and to the learning of all students!
I want to let you know that this will be my last year teaching the gifted program. Mrs. Christa Bell is taking over the RISE program starting in the 2014-15 school year. Mrs. Bell and I had both expressed a desire to refresh ourselves and our programs by making a change and the Board and our principals have graciously agreed to let us do that. I will be teaching in the classroom, using the new teaching and learning models that intrigue me and that can benefit all children.
I have devoted 24 years to teaching gifted children in a pull-out program and have loved every single child who has been in the role of gifted student under my care. Thank you for letting me be a part of your children’s lives.
It’s time for a fresh approach to the RISE program and new challenges for me in the elementary classroom. Please don’t be strangers because I will be just down the hall!
